Telecabina – Benalmadena
*NEW* I have just taken my family on the telecabina, including my 4 week old son! Even though I do actually have a fear or certainly a dislike for cable cars, I actually found it really enjoyable, as long as I faced up the mountain on the way up and down the mountain on the way down.
My 3 and a half year old loved it, in fact I haven´t heard him enthuse about something like this before, i was worried he would be scared but quite the opposite. He even managed to do some of the walk at the top with his grandparents.
I would definitely recommend this but make sure its a nice clear sunny day, not too hot and take your own food and drink as it is a little pricey at the top.
The Telecabinais a 4 person cable car that takes you from Arroyo de la Miel (just outside of Tivoli World) up the mountainside, 800m above sea level, this takes roughly 15 minutes. You can purchase a single or return ticket, as you are able to bike or walk back down the mountain footpath.
Once at the top there are several viewpoints where you can take in the breathtaking views of the coast, on a clear day you can see Gibraltar and the African coast and on the other side, the hills of Sierra Nevada.
Based at the top of the mountain is the Birds of Prey Sanctuary, which has more than 60 different species of birds from Vultures and Eagles to Peregine Falcons and Royal owls. There are bird demonstrations at 1pm and 8pm.
There is a kiosk at the top with snacks and drinks or if you want to take your own food there are picnic tables available.
